At Ultimate Surf & Skate, we offer a premium range of surfboard rentals and demo boards and Wetsuits available from our Wairau Valley store. Whether you’re testing before buying or travelling to New Zealand and prefer not to bring your own board, we’ve got a variety of quality boards ready to surf. All boards are current models we sell in store — meaning you’re riding premium gear, not outdated rental stock.
Why Hire a Demo Board Before You Buy?
Surfboards that look similar on paper can feel completely different in the water. Rocker, rails and volume all affect how a board paddles, turns and generates speed. Demoing lets you test a board in real Auckland conditions before committing.

Try Before You Buy
Hire a demo board for up to 4 days ($200 total) and if you purchase a new board, that $200 is refunded toward your purchase.

How It Works & What’s Included
Getting out on a demo or rental board is simple:
1. Chat With Us. Tell us your height, weight, experience level and the type of waves you’re surfing. We’ll recommend the right board to suit your ability and goals.
2. Choose Your Dates. Book your board for 1–4 days (or longer for rentals). We’ll have everything ready for pickup from our Wairau store.
3. Surf It in Real Conditions. Take it to your local break and properly test how it paddles, turns and feels under your feet.
4. Purchase With Confidence. If you decide to buy a new board, you can receive up to 4 days hire ($200 total) refunded back toward your purchase.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Price is per day hire. We will need to record drivers license and credit card info.
We will refund up to 4 Days Hire ($200) Off the Purchase of a new surfboard under the Demo Program - credit is only held for 3 months after first hire.
When hiring a surfboard (associated accessories included), AND/OR a wetsuit you will assume all responsibility for returning the surfboard and all accessories to the shop in good condition or as in the condition at the time of hire. If damaged/dinged or snapped you will be liable for the cost of repair or replacement.
Please ensure your hire board AND/OR wetsuit is rinsed, and free of sand as much as possible prior to returning it.
We keep our gear boards stored clean and indoors. Any extensive cleaning required by staff will incur a $20 cleaning fee per item - this is non negiotiable.
Surfing is a hazardous activity with inherent risks such as the possibility of injury to your board, yourself or the boards or bodies of others, or even death. As a condition of use of the demo you will assume all responsibility for any injury or damage of any nature and extent caused by or resulting from use or misuse of the surfboard.
By hiring from Ultimate Surf & Skate, you are agreeing that Ultimate Surf & Skate is not liable for any and all claims for negligence or strict liability arising out of my use or misuse of the surfboard and its associated gear, nor any damaged caused to yourself or others.
